Shot to the Arm

My favorite scar is not very big, but has a kind of cool story to it.  I think I was twelve, or around there when I got it.  It’s on the inside of my left arm by my bicep. It’s not very big, only about an inch.
I was at Braydon’s house with Braydon and Tappan.  We were bored so decided to go shoot bb guns.  We were out messing around when Braydon told me too shoot Tappan, so I decided I would.  I pumped the gun once and shot him in the leg.  It didn’t do anything but he was mad and said he was hurt.  So he got mad and pumped his gun like 7 times and so I started running and he started chasing me.  He caught up to me a little bit and shot at me.  It hit me on the outside of the arm.  It hurt pretty bad but I didn’t think anything happened.  There was a hole in my shirt and a little hole in my arm. We were all looking at it and decided it must of just hit them came out.  My arm started hurting on the inside and I felt a little bump.  But Braydon and Tappan said they had a bump too so we decided nothing was wrong.
When I went home I told my mom that Tappan shot and it bounced off something and hit me in the arm.  After I few days we went to the doctor and I got an x-ray and they found out the bb was still in my arm.  So we had to schedule a day for them to cut it out. Well a few days later my mom figured out I shot him first and then he shot me.  She was mad and told me I had to pay the doctor bill.  So we went in and they numbed my arm and got the bb out.
Now there is a tiny scar on the outside of my arm, and a longer one on the inside of my arm.  I thought it was a pretty cool story, and Tappan still thinks he is pretty cool for shooting me in the arm. So that is how I got my scars.

Me as a Writer

Hello. My name is Brandon and I am writing this paper for my English class.

The earliest I remember really writing was about third grade. We never really had “big papers” to write but always little ones that would help build us up to writing long ones. As the years went on the papers would get longer and harder. I started to dislike writing a little bit because it was time consuming and I didn’t have confidence in my skills. But as I went on, I felt my teachers were helping me and I was improving as a writer. Even though I still didn’t love writing, I started liking it a little more.

I usually procrastinate as a writer or in any subject actually, but especially as a writer. I guess it’s just a bad habit I have formed. I don’t like writing a lot at a time, but if I have to I can. I like writing on the computer because it’s faster and I have band hand writing. Also I like group assignments because you can have the thoughts and ideas of others to get a wider view of the topic. But on certain papers, like this I guess having others wouldn’t really work.

I don’t like writing just for fun, I usually only do it when I have too. A few other types of writing I do are like e-mail, texting, things like that, if that even counts. I’m definitely not a big fan of sharing my writing for an audience. It makes me feel uncomfortable, because I don’t have a lot of confidence in my writing. I like writing about things that I can relate to. I also like when we are given a subject to write about, because I’m not good at thinking of subjects. I’m a better writer when here is an outline, like how long, what about, things like that. I guess I just don’t like being challenged too much.

Over time, I have got rid of some bad habits in my writing; such as misplaced commas, wrong verb tense, just getting things in the right place. I don’t feel like I have a very strong ‘voice’ in my writing unless it’s something that I can really relate too. I hope that this changes over time and I develop and stronger voice, and more confidence in my writing.

My strengths in writing are, well not many. If it’s a good subject, I can usually write a pretty well developed paper. But if it’s boring then I just don’t get into it and struggle. I love writing and sports or things that happen in my life. My weaknesses are definitely long papers. I definitely don’t like research papers. They are boring, long and very time consuming. I feel like I will never get done with them, and I have no fun writing them. I have usually received pretty good grades on writing assignments. Tenth grade is when I struggled most, probably because I was challenged more than before. But overall I think it probably mad me a stronger writer.

I hope as I progress as a writer some things I improve on is that I can show more voice, make my points more clear and just become a better overall writher. But I believe the most important part of being a writer is having fun while you’re writing. If you don’t enjoy it, you’re not going to turn in good work.
